Dear students, faculty, and staff,
It is with great hope and optimism for the future of Fenwick University that I write this message.
In the wake of the unprecedented Covid 19 pandemic that has devastated many institutions of higher learning and also the well-documented financial hardships that have plagued the University since long before I took over as President, Fenwick is temporarily closing its doors in order to restructure its curriculum, offerings, finances, and attunement to student life. Because we at Fenwick are dedicated to the art of conversation and the type of character building education that emerges from dialogue with one another, we will not be offering any online class during this global pandemic and will instead be looking toward the future when we can see each other once again, face to face. We are also currently closed to applications from prospective students, as we cannot say for certain when we will be ready to have students return to campus. During this time, we will continue to honor our contracts with faculty and staff, with the expectation that all members of the Fenwick community will be ready to return to the business of learning once our restructuring is complete.
In this time of great pain and also great hope, I would offer you the words of one of my favorite poets:
One generation passeth away, and another generation cometh; but the earth abideth forever… The sun also ariseth, and the sun goeth down, and hasteth to the place where he arose… The wind goeth toward the south, and turneth about unto the north; it whirleth about continually, and the wind returneth again according to its circuits… All the rivers run into the sea; yet the sea is not full; unto the place from whence the rivers come thither they return again.
