At Fenwick University, we believe that education is about more than rehearsing the ideas of others. It's about character formation, personal growth, and bringing ideas to life. Real learning takes place when ideas are allowed to exist beyond the classroom and begin to effect change in the world of human affairs. Ideas that remain only in books are dead on the page. A Fenwick education will teach you to explore the intersection between the life of the mind and life itself.
What makes a book one of the Great Books? At Fenwick, we believe that the Great Books are not merely the best books that have been written but the best books that will be written, the best books being written today. Our Great Books inspired curriculum teaches students not only to appreciate the transcendent works of the past but to see themselves as integral parts of the long Great Books tradition being written through them still today.
Before Plato began educating his auxiliaries in the olive groves just outside of Athens, he learned the art of persuasion through reasoned argumentation in dialogue with his great teacher Socrates, one of the most original and audacious characters in the Western Canon. At Fenwick, we carry on the tradition of learning through listening, interpreting, and arguing by focusing our pedagogy on dialogue, allowing students and faculty alike to emerge from the words their thoughts inspire.
Fenwick University is permanently closed to applications and students.
